“I thought with Ethan here, we could just have him pay for it.”
Finn hadn’t anticipated Ethan leaving without paying. He glanced at the waiter. “You know Ethan Welch, right? Just charge this expense to his account.”
“Sir, we only accept payment on the spot.”
The waiter came closer to Finn.“Cash or card?”
Finn’s face flushed deep red with humiliation. He turned to Luke, “Luke, can you pay the bill for now? I’ll reimburse you later.”
Luke replied calmly, “I have no money. My team was disbanded because of Chloe, and I’m now heavily in debt. To avoid going to jail, I need to pay a large sum to the Maple Company. I can’t afford to pay your bill.”
Finn’s impatience flared. “Then use your credit card!”
“All my cards are maxed out. Since you and Chloe are engaged, let her handle the bill.”
